     CALL FOR SPECIAL ELECTION
    Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. §21-2-540, a special election shall be held in City of Metter to fill the vacancy in the office of City Council, District 1, Seat 1, caused by resignation of Councilman Edwin O. Boyd. The special election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
    Qualifying for the special election shall be held at Metter City Hall, 49 S. Rountree St., Metter, Georgia beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017. The qualifying fee shall be $81.00.
    All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on October 10, 2017. Early voting will be held October 16, 2017 - November 3, 2017, Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Jack Strickland Building, 621 W. Pine Street, Metter, Georgia.
    Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
    Should a runoff election be required, such runoff will be held on December 5, 2017.

    In accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-13(a)(1)(A) and 21-2-131(a)(1)(B) notice is hereby given that the City of Metter will hold a General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 for the purpose of electing a mayor and two council members from the following districts for four-year terms:
        
    MAYOR
    At Large
    Term beginning 01/01/2018 ending 12/31/2021

    CITY COUNCIL
    Seat 2 District 1
    Term beginning 01/01/2018 ending 12/31/2021

    Seat 4 District 2
    Term beginning 01/01/2018 ending 12/31/2021
     


    The voter registration deadline to vote in the November 7, 2017 General Election is October 10, 2017.

  • Sanitation Department

    The City of Metter Sanitation Department provides residential curbside household waste collection throughout the city on a weekly basis andcommercial waste collection three times a week. Disposal of the household waste is in the Candler County Landfill. This department collects more than 1,600 tons of household garbage annually.

    Only Household Trash can be put inside the polycarts. No other items such as Junk, Waste Oil, Yard Debris is allowed to be put in a polycart.

    Garbage schedules vary, but you may call the Metter Public Works Department at 912-685-7845 or Metter City Hall at 912-685-2527 to find out when garbage is collected for your residence or business.

    Lost or stolen polycarts must be replaced by purchasing a new one from City of Metter Public Works. A new polycart is $65.00.
