The City of Metter Street and Lane Department is responsible for maintaining and improving the City’s streets and all associated drainage. This department works closely with the City Tree Board in the pruning, removal and new tree planting. They are responsible for maintaining our beautiful medians filled with flowers as well as our downtown parks and fountains. This department also maintains three Metter city parks. They help with maintaining the grass at the I-16 Industrial Park and the Metter Municipal Airport.

The City of Metter Street and Lane Department collects some limbs and yard waste for residents by use of a chipper for composting mulch and two leaves/limbs trucks that pick up the yard waste. This department collects more than 550 tons annually of leaves and limbs and more than 187 tons of junk annually. The mulch is available to the residents at no charge. The other leaves and limbs, as well as all the junk that is picked up are taken to the Candler County Landfill.

All public right of ways (88.59 miles), including trees, grass cutting and planting, are maintained by the City of Metter Street and Lane Department.

While minor projects can be performed by the Street and Lane Department personnel, large projects are contracted out, as the Department is primarily staffed for maintenance only.
